Frequently asked questions
Why are there four entries for periods of club membership in the Log Book when it is only valid for 3 years?
The Log Book is only valid for 3 years. The first entry is for recording a period of less than a year and is used when a person joins a recognised motor vehicle club mid-way through a financial year. The second and third entries in the Log Book represent full financial years. The fourth entry in the Log Book represents the balance of months remaining from the first entry to complete a financial year.
My father's vehicle is registered in the Conditional Registration Scheme but he died several months ago. Am I able to continue to drive his vehicle?
Registration under the Conditional Registration Scheme is not transferable. If the owner of the vehicle registered in the Scheme is deceased the vehicle cannot be driven. The Conditional Vehicle Registration must be cancelled and the Log Book has to be returned to the recognised vehicle club that issued the Log Book for cancellation. The cancelled Log Book may be kept with a vehicle's records by a new owner. A Log Book that has not been cancelled is not transferable between owners or clubs.
I want to drive my conditionally registered vehicle on a rally interstate for several days. How do I fill out the Log Book given we will be driving through many towns?
A person is permitted to drive a vehicle under the Conditional Registration Scheme interstate, providing the owner resides in South Australia and the vehicle is interstate temporarily. Complete each Log Book entry as instructed in the Log Book at the commencement of each journey. One Log Book entry may consist of several journeys in one day up until midnight. A simple regional description of the journey is required for 'particulars of use', for example, 'south western Victoria' is sufficient to describe a journey to this region. 'Adelaide metropolitan area' is sufficient information for a local journey.
I want to register my vehicle under the Conditional Registration Scheme but I am unsure it would be eligible as it has been converted from a three speed to four speed gearbox. Could you please clarify the situation?
If the transmission is fitted to the Original Equipment Manufacturers specifications or was an option which was available from the original manufacturer at the time of manufacture your vehicle may be eligible, subject to a full inspection by an authorised person such as an Authorised Person from Club Citroën of South Australia Inc.
Vehicles are only eligible for the Conditional Registration Scheme if they conform to the Original Equipment Manufacturers specifications or variations approved by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles outlined in the Code of Practice for Historic Vehicles, Prescribed Left Hand Drive Vehicles and Street Rod Vehicles MR332.
A list of eligibility criteria relating to a motor vehicle's components is published in the MR332 Code of Practice Section 8. The following subheadings contained in the Code of Practice provide specific details on eligibility: body, suspension, rear axle, steering, brakes, transmission, engine, wheels and tyres. Approved variations are outlined in Section 8 of the MR332 Code of Practice. If an Authorised Person from the Club is unable to determine the eligibility of a vehicle for the Conditional Registration Scheme the matter is referred to Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs SA Inc. for clarification.
